Our preschool program is facilitated by certified Early Childhood Educators who provide quality care and education for children ages 30 months to 5 years old.
Our current team of educators is composed of:
Hannah Spray, ECE – Program Coordinator
Hannah has been passionate about facilitating children to grow and learn through meaningful experiences for many years. Completing her ECE and Reggio Emilia training at Capilano University in 2010, this passion became profession, and in 2011 she was the recipient of the British Columbia Lieutenant Governor’s Medal for outstanding academic achievement and contribution in a meaningful way to the community.
A fully licensed Early Childhood Educator and member of ECEBC, Hannah has worked alongside educators and children as a full-time preschool educator, special needs aide for children with a range of diverse abilities, private care provider, and as a substitute educator for the StrongStart (ELF) programs and other preschool programs on Salt Spring Island. Having completed two years towards a Bachelor of Science degree, Hannah has a background in investigation and the natural world that she incorporates in the experiences she shares with children. She also enjoys bringing her guitar, ukulele, and other instruments into the class to make music together with the children.
Cheryl Duthie, ECE-A
Cheryl is a licensed Education Assistant and Early Childhood Educator Assistant.
Along with her certification, Cheryl also holds a Degree in Business and an Associate of the Arts Degree – Majoring in Child Psychology and Development. She has been working with children with a variety of exceptionalities for the past three years. She’s had the opportunity to work with children ages six months to seventeen years old, but holds a special place in her heart for preschool aged children. She believes all children should be surrounded by an enriching and nurturing environment, and encourages children to always ask questions and think about anything and everything. Cheryl comes with a positive, upbeat and extremely outgoing personality.
Julie Sweetnam, ECE
Julie has been an invaluable member of the Little Red Schoolhouse Society for over 16 years. While she will be moving away from being on the floor as a regular educator for the next year’s program, we are thrilled that she will continue to support our preschool program through administration and substitute educator support.
